Zachary is now TWO! He is saying lots of words.... yes, some are still difficult to understand. He LOVES Bob the Builder and the Incredibles. He is sharing a room with Ian and sleeping in a twin bed. He opens the fridge by himself and helps himself to drinks that he has to pour and cheese sticks. He is a big boy! Not really, but he seems big. We celebrated Zachary's birthday all day. We started the day with a phone call from Aunt Mindi. (And Mindi, he says your whole name... "Mindi".) He wore his Happy Birthday shirt to church... just in case there was any question that it was his special day. This afternoon, we sang Happy Bithday and ate a homemade King Cake. Then we went for a family walk. When we returned, Zachary had a singing message from Aunt Raimey and Elaina. And, of course, had a little more King Cake after dinner.
OK, so here is the story on the famous King Cake. Ian and Zachary are having a combined birthday party at the end of January with a Mardi Gras theme. We haven't been impressed with the King Cakes around town, so we thought we would order several from the bakery that we REALLY like in Shreveport. Hello? Can we say $100 with shipping!! So, Ryan got a wild idea that he could make a King Cake. He used Zachary's actual birthday to make a proto type. All afternoon on Saturday, Ryan, Ian and Zachary worked in perfect Mitchell men style to create the beautiful masterpiece of The King Cake pictured above. They discovered that King Cakes are kind of difficult to make. They are, after all, basically a bread. Well, this one was delicious!! It has a lemony flavor and is filled with cream cheese. Good job men!
I also mentioned a family walk earlier. Beaumont has finally built a walking trail. So, three of the last four nights, we have loaded up the jogging stroller, the Tonka bike and the boys, and headed out for a walk where cars are not our enemy. It's been a struggle with Zachary. He only wants to stay in the stroller so long and then he want me to hold him. It's really hard to try to power walk with an extra 25 pounds. But, we press on and hope to make this a family habit. Thanks to Rebekah for inspiring us. We are always reading about your runs and bike rides. When we saw that you took a family run in the rain on Christmas day, we knew we needed to step up to the plate for our health and the boys. Thank you!
